Small but Significant Changes
None of the improvements that HSA made here were very expensive, but they have made a significant difference in the elderly owners’ comfort and safety in moving around the home.
The new doorstep is 36 inches deep, allowing the owner to stand on it with a walker. We also added an assist bar at the door.
In the bathroom, the new comfort-height toilet has assist bars on both sides. One helps when sitting, the other helps with standing.
A short assist bar helps when stepping between the foyer and the kitchen.
Handrails on both sides of the stairs help when going to and from the basement.
A single handrail in the hallway assists with balance.
While opening the door, the owners can set items on a small shelf. An assist bar helps them go up the step.
