No Wasted Space
A retired couple in Milan, Michigan wanted to completely remodel their galley kitchen. This rather compact space has served the couple’s needs, but it simply needed an upgrade. It previously had dark cabinets, vinyl-coated paneling on the walls, carpet on the floor, and a lowered ceiling with fluorescent tubes above the translucent panels.
HSA removed everything from the kitchen, right down to the framing, to correct several problems with the existing layout. After some plumbing and electrical issues were taken care of, new drywall was installed, finished, and primed. Vinyl flooring was installed from wall to wall, since the kitchen was so narrow.
Diamond cabinets from First Design Cabinetry – HSA’s sister company, also based in Saline –were then installed. The couple selected Diamond’s Distinction line, Brighton oak with a natural stain, to lighten and visually expand the kitchen. The new Diamond cabinets were able to be three inches taller since the ceiling height had been increased.
First Design Cabinetry was also able to install more useful cabinets with the new arrangement. A rollout spice cabinet was added on the left side of the sink by relocating a drain line. This new layout has no wasted space. The clients are very happy with it.
