From “Builder-Grade” to Family-Friendly
A Saline family purchased this new home, even though they didn’t particularly like its “builder-grade” kitchen cabinets, when the home became available at just the time they needed to move. Shortly after moving in, they had Homeowner Services of America construct a bedroom in the basement. Happy with the basement result, the homeowners then got back in touch with us, and working with our sister company, First Design Cabinetry, we also helped them upgrade the kitchen.
David Rhoads, the owner of both HSA and FDC, developed the kitchen design and worked with the homeowners to select the cabinet type, style, and finish. Their choice: Diamond cabinets, with a Crandall door style, in a Brierwood maple finish.
There were significant changes to the kitchen’s layout. The stove moved to the right to make room for a Lazy Susan cabinet that eliminated dead space in the corner. Also, a peninsula was added to provide more counter and storage space. The new counters are Corian with an integral two-bowl sink. Lighting was changed to provide more uniform levels of illumination, and to add more light where needed.
The result is a warmer, more comfortable, better-working kitchen for this active family.
