Jane Darling Takes Charge of Sales and Interior Design Services at First Design Cabinetry
SALINE, MI — Jane Darling now has full–time responsibility for cabinetry sales and interior design services at First Design Cabinetry (FDC), a sister company to Homeowner Services of America, Inc. (HSA). Both companies are headquartered in Saline, MI.
Darling joined FDC/HSA on a part–time basis in June 2004 after working for five years as an interior design professional for the Ann Arbor, MI office of SmithGroup, the nation’s third–largest architecture, engineering, interiors, and planning firm.
Previously, Darling served for eleven years in space planning and interior design for Daniels and Zermack Associates, an Ann Arbor–based firm focusing on the design of banks and other financial institutions.
During the mid–1980s, Darling specialized in interior design for Crawford Design of Ann Arbor. She began her professional career in 1969 as a draftsperson for McNamee, Porter & Seeley, an Ann Arbor–based civil engineering firm now part of Tetra Tech MPS. At McNamee, Darling also gained marketing and graphic design experience.
In 1968, Darling earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, along with certification to teach art, from Eastern Michigan University. She is registered by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ), earning certification in 1988.
Darling was born and raised in Dearborn, MI. Since 1975, she has lived in Saline, where she and her husband raised their two children. FDC provides cabinetry for kitchens, baths, and home offices. Its solutions range from basic to fully customized cabinets, including framed and unframed units. FDC is an authorized dealer of Ultracraft, Diamond, Grandview, and Almega Cabinets.
FDC was founded by David Rhoads, who also owns and operates HSA. Since 1985, HSA has successfully completed over 600 home remodeling projects. HSA specializes in kitchens, baths, basements, additions, dormers, master suites, and home modifications for those with special needs — for example, senior citizens, disabled people, and others.
Rhoads is president of the Home Builders Association of Washtenaw County and a director of the state HBA. He is certified by "Aging in Place" to adapt homes for easier living by senior citizens. In 2004, the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce selected Rhoads as Saline’s Citizen of the Year in recognition of his community involvement.
