About HSA
Homeowner Services of America (HSA) began in 1985 as a
home repair business in Ann Arbor, Michigan. David Rhoads, HSA’s
founder and owner, soon shifted the company’s focus to home
remodeling. Superior results came quickly. In 1988, HSA was named
one of America’s
Top 50 Remodelors by the National Association of Homebuilders,
and the company has been consistently recognized for excellence ever
since.
Meet David Rhoads, Founder and Owner
David Rhoads was born in Springfield,
Illinois in 1941. He lived for much of his youth in Texas before
serving in the U.S. Army from 1959
to 1966.
In the late 1960s, David worked for Mallinckrodt Nuclear
of St. Louis, Missouri. Then, for nearly two decades, he excelled
in business
management
roles for Bechtel Corp. A Bechtel job transfer brought David from
Maryland to the Ann Arbor area in 1972.
David’s extensive
business experience helped him establish HSA in 1985. Since then,
he has been a regional leader of the home
remodeling
industry. David served for over a decade as Director and Chair
of the Washtenaw Remodelors Council and Director of the State Remodelors
Council.
For two of those years, he was also Director and Treasurer of the
State Chapter of the National Kitchen and Bath Association.
In 2001, David became a Director of the Homebuilders Association
(HBA) of Washtenaw County. He has served as that organization's
President and is currently a National Director. David is also on
the Board of the Homebuilders Foundation.
In 1997, David
formed First Design Cabinetry, a companion business to HSA. Two
years later, he moved both companies to their current
headquarters in Saline, Michigan.
David has earned two national certifications:
CGR - Certified Graduate Remodelor
CAPS - Certified Aging in Place Specialist
Both certifications require training, testing and continuing education classes.
In recent years, David has been
highly involved in the Saline community. He is a Director of
the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce, a facilitator
for Saline Leadership Institute, Treasurer of the Coalition for
a Quality Community (CQC) and Pick Up the Pace Saline (PUPS). He
is on the Cares Discretionary Fund Board, the Business Development
Association, the Saline Sustainability Circle and the Saline Area
Historical Society. David was elected to the Saline City Council
in November 2006.
In 2004, the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce honored David Rhoads
as Saline’s Citizen of the Year. The award recognized David’s
exceptional contributions as a volunteer and leader in a wide range
of charitable, service, and community improvement initiatives.
