Meet David Rhoads
HSA’s Founder, Owner, and President
David Rhoads was born in Springfield, Illinois in 1941. He lived for much of his youth in Texas before serving in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1966. In the late 1960s, David worked for Mallinckrodt Nuclear of St. Louis, Missouri. Then, for nearly two decades, he excelled in business management roles for Bechtel Corporation. A Bechtel job transfer brought David from Maryland to the Ann Arbor, Michigan area in 1972.
David Rhoads’ extensive business experience helped him establish Homeowner Services of America (HSA) in 1985. Since then, David has been a regional leader of the home remodeling industry. He served for over a decade as Director and Chair of the Washtenaw Remodelors Council and Director of the Remodelors Council of Michigan. For two of those years, David was also Director and Treasurer of the State Chapter of the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA).
In 2001, David became a Director of the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Washtenaw County, now known as the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Ann Arbor (BRAGAA). He has served as the organization’s president, and is now recognized as a Local Life Director of BRAGAA in recognition of his ten years of service on the board.
David is an executive director of the Michigan Association of Home Builders (MAHB) and a director of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). He is also on the board of the Home Builders Foundation (HBF).
In 1997, David formed First Design Cabinetry (FDC), a companion business to HSA. Two years later, he moved both companies to their current headquarters in Saline, Michigan.
David has earned two national certifications, both requiring training, testing, and continuing education:
In 2011, David was named the Remodeler of the Year by the Michigan Association of Home Builders. The award recognizes David’s professional commitment and community involvement.
